Cub Scout Day Camp

McGimsey Scout Park offers four weeks of day camp adventure every year. Each day of day camp scouts will swim, play games, make crafts, learn scouting skills and have fun. Scouts will also earn their rank-specific Shooting Sports patch in archery and BBs.

Pack 502 is attending day camp as a pack during week 1: June 14-18. To sign up, please complete the form here: https://form.jotform.com/210796821697065. The pack will register your scout for the event.

Theme and Schedule

This year’s day camp theme is “Adventures Through Time” and week 1’s program is Old-School Entertainment Extravaganza:

Have you ever wondered what people did to entertain themselves before cell phones and video games became a daily thing in our lives? Explore the history of fun through the decades and never be bored again!

The day camp program is for scouts in the 1st through the 5th grades during the 2021-2022 school year. Tigers (children in 1st grade) are required to have an adult partner with them at camp.

The camp week runs Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm. After-camp programs are also available with swim lessons from 3:15 to 4:00 and after-camp care from 3:00 to 6:00.

Cost of Day Camp

A week of Cub Scout day camp costs $155, and to promote the summer program the pack will pay $55 per scout. The remaining $100 can be paid using funds from your scout’s account (if applicable), selling camp cards, providing the funds to the pack, or a combination of these options.

If you choose to sell camp cards, please reach out to Ted Borcherding at ted.borcherding@scouting.org, our camp card coordinator.

Camp Cards – A Scout Discount Card Made for Endless Adventures
  • Cards sell for $5 each
  • Scout accounts are credited $2.50 per card sold, to go towards the cost of summer camp
  • There is no financial risk to families to sell cards
  • Families can check out cards from the pack to sell, and return unsold cards by 5/16/2021

Disclaimer: For Cub Scout camps during summer 2021, Pack 502 will pay a total of $55 per scout registered with the pack by 5/1/21. Scouts may attend more than one week of summer camp, but the Pack will only cover $55 towards one week.

The following Alamo Area Council Cub Scout camps are included in this offer:
  • Cub Scout Day Camp – McGimsey Week 1 (Pack week)
  • Cub Scout Day Camp – McGimsey Week 2
  • Cub Scout Day Camp – McGimsey Week 3
  • Cub Scout Day Camp – McGimsey Week 4 (Twilight camp)
  • Akela Adventure Camp (for current Webelos and Bears about to enter Webelos)

If your scout would like to attend summer camp, but cannot attend Week 1, they are welcome to attend any week, and the pack will pay the same $55. By completing the jot form, you agree to be financially responsible for the $100 family portion of the registration fee, even if your Scout ends up not attending.

Volunteering

Volunteers are always needed at camp. If you are interested in attending camp with your child, and being an adult volunteer with child’s group, please let me know and we’ll register you as well. There is no cost for adults, unless you choose to purchase a t-shirt. T-shirts are $10 each. Any adult attending day camp is required to have a current YPT certificate on file. By registering to attend, you agree to a criminal background check. Please indicate which days you will attend.
