Upcoming Events and Announcements
Volunteer Sign-ups – With a Pack as active as ours, there are lots of volunteer opportunities, from year-long commitments, to one-time at-home opportunities. The volunteer opportunities will be posted on our website as activities come up. Please check regularly to see if there is anything you can do to assist our pack.
Monthly Newsletters – We will have monthly Pack newsletters that will be handed out at the Pack meetings, and posted to our website afterwards to help keep those who were not able to attend a Pack meeting informed. Our August newsletter is posted on the website.
Update from Meet the Teacher Night – Our Pack had an informational table at the VR Meet the Teacher Night this past Thursday. We had lots of families stop by to ask questions and pick up information. Of those families, 23 left their contact information. This was the first step in our fall recruiting process.
Round Up Night – For step two of the recruiting process, we will be hosting our Round-Up Night on Thursday, September 14, in the VR cafeteria from 6:30 – 7:30. This is an opportunity for our Pack to show potential Scouts what a great group we have, and to show them how much fun we have in Cub Scouts. The event will mostly be informational for the parents, while at the same time, the recruits are working separately with the Dens. We really do need to have as many families at this event as possible to properly display our Pack’s enthusiasm.
First Pack Meeting – Our first formal Pack meeting is September 21, in the VR cafeteria from 6:30 – 7:45. Our structure is slightly different this year. We’ll have our gathering period with activities for the boys from 6:30 – 6:45, with the meeting officially starting at 6:45. KIN has the cafeteria up until 6:30, which makes it difficult for us to set up and begin right at 6:30, so we thought we would push our start time off to 6:45.
Popcorn Show & Sells – In order to reach our Pack fundraising goal of selling $25,000 of popcorn, we have organized lots of show and sells over the next 7 weeks. Our show and sell locations are Lowes (along 1604 between Huebner and Blanco), Chevron (corner of Huebner and Stone Oak), and Wal-Mart (near the corner of 1604 and 281). Click this link to sign up for a show and sell slot. We encourage all of our Scouts to participate, and to sign up for multiple show and sells. Our first show and sell starts this Saturday, and there are still plenty of slots to fill. We need your help to make this popcorn selling season a success!
Preorders – If you pre-ordered popcorn, it will be available for pick up this Saturday, in the front Vineyard Ranch parking lot between 4:00 and 4:45.
Show and Sell Volunteers – Please remember that we need a minimum of two volunteers for each show and sell shift, and that every volunteer MUST complete Youth Protection Training. The training can be completed online at my.scouting.org. Once you create an account and login, you will see in the top right corner a graphic for “Youth Protection Begins with You.” Click here to begin. Once the training is complete, please email a copy of your completion certificate to our Registrar, Natalia, and our Cubmaster, Alissa (email@example.com). You will not be allowed to volunteer without first completing the training, so please plan ahead.
Show and Sell Set Up – The Popcorn Kernels will be onsite to help you get set up at each shift, and at the conclusion of your shift. The Kernels will bring the popcorn, change, Square readers for credit cards, tables, table cloths, posters, donation jar, product listing, and other misc supplies.
Show and Sell, What You Need to Bring – Please bring your own chairs, water, and any snacks. Shifts are 2 hours, so you may not need to bring much. For the first show and sell you volunteer for, we ask that you follow a few steps in advance to be able to accept credit cards with the Square readers. Prior to the show and sell, please download the Square Point of Sale app. We will get you signed into our account at the beginning of your first volunteer shift. Make sure your cell phone is charged in advance, and if you have a portable battery pack, we recommend you bring it, just in case.
Online Sales and Scout Code – If you participate in the Show and Sells, we recommend you set up an online account through Trails End in advance at https://www.trails-end.com/register. Once you have signed your Scout up, login to your Scout’s account. Take note of the series of letters and numbers at the end of the website you are on (appears to be the last 8 characters). This is your Scout’s Scout Code. This can be handed out to friends, relatives, and even at show and sells to potential customers who want product that we are not able to stock at the show and sells. The online orders are shipped directly to the customer, and the Pack receives 50% commission for online sales versus the 40% for other methods. We will have preprinted cards available at the show and sells where your Scout would just need to write in their Scout Code and hand the card to the customer.
