Current Alamo Area Council Info on Coronavirus

UPDATED Response to Coronavirus COVID-19 as of Monday, May 4, 2020

Dear Alamo Area Council, Due to updated developments regarding COVID-19 through the State of Texas Governor’s Office, Bexar County in coordination with San Antonio Mayor Nirenberg’s Declaration of Public Health Emergency, and nationally through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Alamo Area Council’s Service Centers, Camps, and properties will be closed until further notice. For your safety and the safety of others, we ask that you obey the Stay Home / Work Safe order until further notice. If you have to go for essentials, please wear a cloth face covering.

Council and District Events scheduled through May 2020 are postponed to either summer or fall 2020. Scouting CONTINUES and we accept the challenge to deliver the objectives of Scouting in a more comprehensive and creative environment. Patrol meetings over the phone or video conferencing, merit badges delivered online, webinar training for leaders are just a few ways our Scouts are pushing forward. Scouting at Home is also a resource hub launched at www.AlamoAreaBSA.org/ScoutingatHome to provide continued programming.

A complete listing of event changes will be published on our Council calendar, within our Digital Adventure Guide magazine, and posted to our social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Youtube.

We will continue to monitor the Tawk.to online Chat feature of the Council’s website www.AlamoAreaBSA.org during the office hours of 8:30 am – 6 pm Monday – Thursday and 8:30 am – 3:30 pm on Friday. And, please use our social media platforms as a resource and communications outlet, especially Facebook and Youtube.

District and council committees will use the Council supported Zoom video conferencing technology to maintain normally scheduled meetings and events. Other free and low-cost options include Google Hangouts, Skype, Zoom, and FreeConferenceCall.com.

Should you have any questions or concerns about a specific upcoming event or activity, please reach out to your local district executive or email the Council Leadership team at safety@AlamoAreaBSA.org or the Outdoor Adventure department at Adventure@AlamoAreaBSA.org.

We will do everything we can to answer your question using the information available to us, including following insights from Bexar County and the San Antonio Metropolitan Health Department to evaluate the situation and make decisions in the best interest of our members, volunteers, and employees.

Please check back on our website www.AlamoAreaBSA.org for the latest guidelines as this is an evolving situation and any of these guidelines are subject to change. We will take additional steps as needed.
